Sabine Writes

On this site I will share what I write.

Write more!

Today I want to go a bit into why I created this blog. I want to write more! I swear I want to, it’s just not as easy as sitting down and start writing. Sometimes it is easy and sentences form almost automatically. Sometimes I stare at the blinking cursor and the words dont come. And of course sometimes inspiration strikes when I dont have the opportunity to get some words on paper, because Im driving for example.

Advice from writers

I’ve seen a lot of advice from other writers that it’s the best to try and write something everyday. There’s a lot of different advices as to how much though. The way those advices were given ranged from proper advices till basically commanding people to do it according to their own personal rules. There’s people that say you have to write at least 1000 words a day, or else you can’t call yourself writer. They meant this even as a parttime and hobby writer, which I found extremely unreasonable. And there’s people that aim to write either at least 5 hours OR a minimum of words. Because sometimes you spend time revising what you’ve written the day before, that also takes time. I could find myself a bit more in the last advice.

In the end I think you have to find something that works for you. What that something is for me, well I´m still figuring it out at the moment. In the past I already learned to take anything people say as advice, not a rule. What might work for one person, won’t work for another. A lot of the times things are phrased as a fact, while they are in fact an opinion of the writer.

How much do I write?

Writing everyday does happen… technically. Chatting with people is also writing, it´s just not exactly productive in the way that stories get finished. When I was working on stories and bigger pieces of text in chats, I noticed I found it easier to continue writing. Somehow once I’m in this writing flow, it’s easier to keep going on. This blog is the result of finding out that when I write little articles, it´s easier to continue or start writing on my stories.

I don´t think I´m ready to try and write everyday. I work a job as well, so I cant just write anytime. During the days I work that job I found that I can´t sit down and write in the evening. What I can do during that job however, is think about storylines and characters. So in a way I am busy with writing, even if I´m not doing the actual writing yet.

When I write and how much is different every week at the moment because of this. Hopefully I can find a bit more consistency in the future. Right now the friday is usually the day I sit down and write or revise a ton. Other days and evenings also happen randomly, whenever I feel inspired and have the energy and time for it.

______

I will see what the future brings. Hopefully writing blogs will help me get into the writing flow more. There are certainly enough subjects I can write little blogposts about, so that will be a nice experience for sure!
